AI-SEO is just SEO with the volume turned up

by Maya Patel

Everyone's panicking that AI Overviews will kill SEO. They won't. What's changing: you now optimise to be cited by an LLM, not just ranked by a crawler. That means clear structure, real expertise, and being the source others quote. The fundamentals didn't change — relevance, authority, clarity — the surface did. If your content is genuinely the best answer, you'll get cited. If it's thin, you'll get summarised away. Write for the human; the machine follows.

Authority compounds. The brands that invested in being trusted are winning the AI-citation era.

Being the quotable source is the whole game now. Specific facts get lifted; fluff gets compressed.

The reframe that helped my clients most: stop optimizing pages, start optimizing MENTIONS. A brand that gets talked about in credible places gets absorbed into training data and citations. PR and SEO have finally merged into one discipline and half the industry hasn't noticed yet.

Confirming from the content side: my clients getting cited most have ONE canonical explainer per question, kept ruthlessly up to date, instead of forty thin posts. Depth consolidates; volume dilutes.
